- Description
- KPIX-TV news news footage from June 6th 1970 with reporter Ed Arnow regarding the storming of the Iranian consulate in San Francisco by 50 Iranian students who were protesting the Shah of Iran's brutal dictatorship. The event coincided with the arrival of the Shah's twin sister, Ashraf Pahlavi, in San Francisco, who was visiting to attend the 25th anniversary of the United Nations. The students, who were part of the Iranian Students Association, had caused some damage to the interior of the building, and had written slogans onto the walls of the consulate both in Persian and in English denouncing the Shah. The students were arrested by the Police for conspiracy and trespassing. Includes an interview with supervising poilce Captain Jeremiah Taylor and views of people being arrested and put into an SFPD police wagon. Thanks to Hamed Eghbal for providing this text description, in collaboration with SFSU's Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
